The big education event this month was CORE Education’s annual uLearn conference. During his presentation, the AI Forum’s Ben Reid highlighted the significant opportunity in New Zealand for AI to deliver efficiencies in education and transform some of the traditional learning methods. For those in Auckland keen to learn more about AI and gain hands on experience, check out the new Meetup group School Of AI – Auckland.
Earlier this month, I attended the Blockworks event which was world class and offered real world, practical use cases for the application of Distributed Ledger Technology, (DLT) (think next generation and offshoots of Blockchain). I’m seeing some great examples of potential solutions for our ecosystem, including identity, frameworks for micro-credentials, digital badges and student records. At the same time, DLT could facilitate security, portability and personal ownership of one’s educational record.
Also in October, Tahi Rua Toru Tech in partnership with IT Professionals NZ and the Ministry of Education kicks off the Regional Championships. These events are a fantastic showcase supporting the new Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko curriculum in schools. Winners receive an all expenses paid trip to the National Championship in December.
Following the success of the award winning ShadowTech for Students programme, TechWomen and CreateOps introduces ShadowTech Teachers. This is a great opportunity for teachers to gain real world digital tech experience directly from industry. Register here for ShadowTech Teachers on 14 November, places are strictly limited.
